Zevely

Restored
This home was built by David Blum and later sold to Dr. Augustus T. Zevely. In
the mid 1800's Dr. Zevely began taking in guests who could not find lodging, across the
street, in the Salem Tavern.

Salem
Tavern

Restored
The original tavern was built in 1771 and was destroyed by fire in 1784. Within
one year a new tavern was constructed on the original 1771 foundation using materials that
had been designated for the construction of the Single Sister's house. The most famous
visitor to the tavern was President George Washington who visited for two days in
1791. In 1941 the tavern was donated to the Wachovia Historical Society who later
leased the building to Old Salem, Inc.

Jacob
Siewers House

The home of Jacob Siewers, built in the Greek Revival style.

John Siewers
House

Preservation
Built by the cabinetmaker, John Siewers. This house has been preserved, to a
large degree, in its original condition. An 1850's "Pleasure Garden" is
located on the north side of the house.
