Single Brothers House Single Brothers House

The home and workshops of the single men of the community.  The first floor contains the Saal (meeting hall), the Vorsteher's room and workshops for the tailor, weaver, potter, joiner and cooper.  In the basement is the dining hall, kitchen and workshops for the tinsmith, dyer, and pewtersmith.

2nd Floor: Offices for Old Salem, Inc.

Market-Fire House

Reconstructed

The northern half of this building was used as a market for fresh meat.  The southern half housed the fire engines which the congregation purchased after the Salem Tavern was destroyed by fire.

Elias Vogler Store Elias Vogler Store

Altered

"Mammoth Store" operated by Elias A. Vogler, son of the silversmith, John Vogler, from 1867 until the 1870's.  The front of the building was altered in the 1930's.

Current Use:
Moravian Book and Gift Shop


Community Store
1775
Restored

This building functioned as a store from 1775 until 1907.  Its most well known storekeeper was Traugott Bagge who helped lead the Moravians through the dangerous times of the Revolutionary War.

Current Use:
T. Bagge, Merchant, an Old Salem, Inc. gift shop
